A bunch of amateur film-makers, with nothing left to lose, tackle one of Hollywood's greatest musicals in order to save their beloved Bradford Film Club.
As its members grow old amid flickering memories and hardships, a handful of diehard members desperately cling to their dreams, and to each other, in this warm and funny look at shared artistic folly that speaks to the delusional dreamer in us all.
Bradford Movie Makers was founded in 1932, making it one of the oldest amateur filmmaking clubs anywhere in the world. The documentary follows the club through some genuinely difficult times — falling badly behind on rent and struggling to keep the doors open — and went on to win the audience award at Sheffield Doc/Fest and the feature documentary audience award at Leeds International Film Festival. It was also the only fully UK-produced documentary to make that year's BAFTA longlist, which is a serious achievement for a film about a small local film club.
Genuinely worth a watch if you've ever been part of a club like this yourself, or just fancy something warm, funny and a bit different.
